Healthy BBQ Sauce (Vegan)

As part of a trying to follow a healthy lifestyle, I try to avoid vinegar in my foods. This means avoiding store bought bbq sauce. However, over the years I've tried some homemade bbq sauces and believe I've finally come across a pretty tasty one. Not only is it tasty but it's also very healthy: no vinegar, refined sugar free and ketchup free. I thought I would share it with you all today:




Healthy BBQ SAUCE

Prep time: 5 minutes

Total time: 5 minutes

Servings: 2 cups

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water

  • 6 oz/156ml can tomato paste

  • 1/2 cup applesauce, unsweetened

  • 3 tbsp unsulphured molasses/blackstrap molasses

  • 2 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1 tbsp maple syrup

  • 1 tbsp onion powder

  • 1 tbsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp liquid smoke

  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients a bowl and whisk until all is well incorporated.

  2. Enjoy!
