Making your own plant-based milk is easier than you think. Not only simple but you can also get creative. Although most of us are used to almond milk, walnuts are also a great type of plant-based milk not really found on the market. Walnuts are a great source of healthy fats such as omega 3's so they really make a nutritious addition!
Almond-walnut milk recipe
Prep time: 12 hours
Total time: 12 hours and 5 minutes
Servings: About 1 liter (4 cups)
Ingredients
1/2 cup almonds
1/2 cup walnuts
Lots of water
Sprinkle of salt
Instructions
Rinse your almonds and walnuts and submerge them in room temperature water and let them soak for 12 hours.
Discard the water and add the almonds and walnuts and salt to your blender.
Add 5 cups of filtered water to your jug and blender on high speed for 1-2 minutes.
Once done blending, prepare whatever you are going to put your almond milk in and place it in your sink without the lid. Using either a cheesecloth or a strainer, slowly strain the almond milk into your container.
You will notice a lot of pulp leftover, you can keep it and use it in other recipes (I tried cookies once). To be sure you can always double strain your milk but other than that you're done! You've made homemade almond-walnut milk, not bad eh?
This milk stays good for about 5 days in the fridge.
Enjoy!
