The Book of Revelation: Is it Really Sealed?

Whether you are a Christian or not, you may have heard of something in the Bible called the 3 angels messages from the book of Revelation. For a long time and still today, many people in the Christian world believe that the book of Revelation is too mysterious to be understood and that God sealed the book so we shouldn't seek to understand it. Today, I'd like to share with you why that's not true and in the next blog posts we'll go over the 3 angels messages separately. Let's dig in the word!

It will be quite simple to explain why it isn't true that the Book of Revelation is sealed and not meant to be understood by anyone. The first chapter of the book reads:

"The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John, who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things that he saw. Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near." Revelation 1:1-3

Three things in these first verses of that book reveal to us that this book not only isn't meant to be put aside but it should be understood above all!

1. Revelation of Jesus Christ

The first point is that this book is the revelation of Jesus Christ. If this book gives us a revelation of who Jesus is, isn't it in our best interest to read it? We are called to love Jesus and get to know Him more and more, wouldn't reading a revelation of Himself be a great way of doing this?

2. Show His servants

Do I need to elaborate? We're told specifically here that God gave this to show us, His servants things which must shortly take place. So it's in our best interest to read isn't it?

3. Blessed is he who...

So not only does this give us a better understanding of Jesus and it was written to be shown to us but those who read, hear and keep the things of this book are blessed!

More than that...

This is what the last chapter of the book of Revelation says:

For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. Revelation 22:18

So not only are we given a bunch of reasons to read and understand in the first chapter but in the last chapter we're told specifically that changing this book in any way will come at a cost. That's how precious and specific the information is in this book.

And there it is!

Those are the reasons why I believe we need to read and understand this book. I don't know of any other book of the Bible that gives an intro so specific as to explain why we should be reading it. Now, after reading all this, I'm sure many of you are thinking: "well it's pretty obvious, why would anyone think the opposite?".

Well, the sad reality is that Satan knows that if we read this book, we will be better prepared for the things to come and have discernment on the events that are going to take place. This means that reading this book will help us on our journey to meet Jesus. Satan hates that. Satan hates Jesus and his way of hurting Jesus is to hurt us, His children. So he uses any form of deception he can to take our eyes off of Jesus because he knows that if our eyes are fixed elsewhere, we are lost.

This is why he leads people to discourage us to read and understand the revelations from this book. And the other group of people he deceived are those who hear that they shouldn't try understanding this book and just take other peoples word for it. God didn't make it difficult to realize that this book is important for us to read, as you read so yourself, it's all in the first few verses.

You don't need to dig deep.

But people often rely too much on other peoples advice and interpretation of the Bible rather than search for themselves. Even searching just a little bit! So, as we go through these messages together, I'd like to encourage all of you to study for yourself because this is your own faith you're building up.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

This is why I called this website Taste and See.

It's because I want everyone to taste and see for themselves the truths of the Bible and to experiment yourselves the love of God. Not only through sermons, movies, music, documentaries, blog posts etc. But through your own personal relationship with God, by communication with Him and getting to know what His word says. Those are the main points of focus, the rest is meant to be a help as you get to know God. So I'm not saying not to watch sermons and read other sources of information, but those things shouldn't be your number one source of information about God.

I hope that this has shed some light on the importance of understanding the book of Revelation and more importantly that it's vital that each individual studies for themselves to be grounded in truth. The more you study it yourself, the more you understand it and the more you believe it when you see it with your own eyes.

So let's keep studying and learning! What is your opinion on the book of Revelation? Should it be read or not? Let me know what you think!

Prayer to pray: Dear Jesus, thank You for providing us with a book that teaches us more about You. You are Love and what joy it is to get to know You better every day. Please help us to study to show ourselves approved and not rely so much on what others tell us. When we do read or listen to others, help us to verify the information we are given. Please guide us everyday, we pray in Your name. Amen.

Thanks for reading and God bless you all.

Much love and smiles,

Nahisha :)
